Music has always been an integral part of Edwin’s life since the tender age of 4. The top graduate from the pioneer batch of the Diploma in Music & Audio Technology (Singapore Polytechnic), Edwin achieved the Media Development Authority Gold Medal (Course Medal) & DBS Bank Award.
Currently studying at Berklee College of Music on a Dean's Award scholarship, Edwin clinched the CWP 'Scoring for Advertising' Award '13 (Professional Writing & Music Technology Division) and achieved the Dean's List (Fall '12). A firm believer in giving back to the community, Edwin is a volunteer Mentor with the Berklee City Music Mentoring Program. As the President of the Atypicals' Alliance Club, he is also active in the Berklee Student Government Association. In addition, he is part of the Street Team of the Berklee Groove, helping out in the promotion of events and competitions. He was also involved in Fall '12 as a Band Keyboardist & Rehearsal Pianist in 'Hairspray: The Musical', staged by the Berklee Musical Theater Club.
As a composer, Edwin was a finalist in the recent Taylor's Short Film Contest '12 (Malaysia) [http://youtu.be/kxoVRkKSOsc] and scored for "Alone, Forever?", a popular Malaysian YouTube short [http://youtu.be/tkvri2N0AFU]. An avid performer, Edwin plays at corporate and private functions, cafes, weddings, musicals, and community and charity events throughout the year. While studying abroad, he has played for artistes including Amirah Ali, Ila Damiaa, Joe Flizzow, SonaOne; and opened for AJ Rafael. He was also a keyboardist for the musical "Paper Crane" (2012) and "ICOM Celebration Series: Tribute to Disney" concert (2011), held at the KL Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC); and has played at events such as the Ambon Jazz Plus Festival 2011 in Indonesia.
Back home, Edwin took on multiple roles as Cast Member (Chorus), Rehearsal Pianist and Baritone Section Leader in Singapore Polytechnic’s “Superstar: The Pop Musical” (2006). He was also the second keyboardist in the incidental music band of Young NTUC’s May Day 2007 musical, “A Labour of Love”. He has appeared regularly at music festivals (Singapore Street Festival 2009, MoonFest @ Esplanade 2009) and charity events (Charity Fiesta 2006 @ South West, Music For Hope 2008, Blackout @ Emily 2009). Edwin’s role as a Music Producer/Arranger saw his Artiste & Repertoire team achieve championship for Singapore Polytechnic in the 1st National Inter-School Artiste & Repertoire Challenge 2006/7. In 2007, he represented Singapore Polytechnic as an Audio Lead in the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab, a collaboration between Media Development Authority & Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Edwin has worked on the music production for musicals, concerts, dramas, and YouTube shorts; and occasionally coaches keyboard both privately and at music schools. He was the sound designer for “An Inspector Calls”, a Singapore Polytechnic drama production staged in support of the President’s Challenge 2008, and a finalist in the NTU Music Express 14 National Songwriting Competition (2008). His artistic passion continues to grow, as does his hope to inspire others through his expressive music.
